I was referred to this book by my school's librarian. She gave it to me with the note that many students liked it a lot. It was a book with high traffic inside and outside of the library. I'm still not 100% sure on how I feel about the book, or about how I feel about it with freshmen in high school. The content of the book deals with some subjects of a more adult nature. But the book itself had a strange quality...
Alright. So there is something very strange occurring within this book. On the one hand it wasn't the best thing I've ever read. There certainly are books that were better written, or there could have been different things that happened in this book to make it better. On the other hand, I raced through the book and thought constantly about the next book. I was looking forward to it. As of right now I have not started the next one, I am working on a different series, but I think I will end up reading the remainder of the series.
I liken this book to Twilight. While I was reading it, I did enjoy it. I got caught up in the story and I wanted to know what happened with the characters even though I knew that the characters were not all that well developed and the writing was not very good. This is like Twilight, but for adults. The nature of the novel was more adult and now that I've finished it, I can tell that this book will probably have the same effect. The main character is a weakened female, who can read minds and she is in a love triangle between a vampire and a shape-shifter, who we learn about because he is in the form of a dog. Again, this book has this sort of intriguing quality about it, so much so that I felt guilty reading it, but would read it whenever I got the chance. Now that I've read the first one I am semi-embarrassed to get the others from the library but want to read more of the story.
Would I recommend it? It's a book that is fast paced. It's fantasy. I think that yes, I would recommend it but I would recommend it with the note of "Don't hold it against me."
