Safe Haven by Nicholas Sparks

Author: Nicholas Sparks
Genre: Drama, romance
Rating: 9

I just finished this book last night. I had tried to read this books a couple of times before I actually did, and in the end I thought that it was really great.

I've read my fair share of Nicholas Sparks, and surprisingly they tend to each have their own flavor, however, this one was quite a bit different than the others that I have read and part of that is why I think that I liked the book so much. I also think that's why is has such mixed reviews on Goodreads. I was not able to fully figure out the ending, and at the end of the book  I was content with what happened.

The book surrounds a small town in North Carolina (one of the aspects of Sparks' books that does get overdone). The main character is Katie, she is meek, shy and careful about how she conducts herself. Right off the bat the reader can tell something is not quite right with Katie and her past. Katie begins to fall for a local shop owner, Alex and her past starts to come back to visit her and jeopardizes the life that she has built.

Overall, I enjoyed the book. I thought it was thoughtfully written and had a very unique character in Katie.
